My Free Lead Testing Kit Arrived

I live in a very old building, one that will surely crumble when the big Cascadia Earthquake hits. But before I prep with a years worth of camping supplies that will inevitability be buried under three stories of unreinforced brick. I’m more worried about the most recent crisis to hit our fair city – the lead scare.

Last Wednesday, I added a page to the site: city services. From there you can order a variety of kits, maps and other things provided from the city. Of course, I had to test it out for myself. The same day I made the post I ordered a free lead testing kit for myself. Lo and behold on Saturday it arrived.

It comes with a large blue water bottle from the Portland Water Bureau, a smaller white container, a how to brochure for collecting your sample, an info card you need to fill out and (the big Kauna) a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope – so you can send the pertinent sample to be tested for free!!

On Sunday morning, I filled my big blue bottle because my water had been off for 6-18 hours overnight, shook up the contents and poured it into the smaller sample bottle. Now I’m going to send this thing off.

I am so pumped to get my water tested AND I’m a little leery of carrying around the free water bottle from the PWB but that all depends on how the test turns out, fingers crossed. I strongly suggest you get you water tested too and maybe grab some energy efficient light bulbs here.
