This month starts out strong with a free screening of Groundhogs Day at the Clinton Street Theater, while Portland Startup Week presents various tech inspired events every day from Monday, February 1st till Friday, February 5th. Starting on the 3rd through the weekend, OMSI hosts the Portland Winter Light Festival in an effort to rid the city of seasonal affective disorder. The Cascade African Film Festival kicks off it’s almost two month run at the Hollywood Theatre with a free screening on Feb. 5th. And that’s just the first week, lines for free chicken sandwiches excluded.
In North Portland, Mississippi Street will host a vibrant Mardi Gras Parade and celebration on the 9th. If you are looking for something to do on or instead of Valentine’s Day, try jockying for a local brewery tour spot on Saturday the 13th during the statewide Zwickelmania. There will also be the 2nd Annual Portland Night Market, Friday and Saturday in the Central Eastside Industrial District.
Plus, we get a free extra day this year, Leap Day, Feb. 29th, a Monday….
