SUMMARY:Future Forum: Weird Allan Kaprow
DESCRIPTION:FutureForum is a free series of public artists talks at the Hollywood Theatre\, presented in partnership with Portland Community Media. Join us for mind-bending\, circuit-melting discussions on the future of art and invention led by groundbreaking media artists from Portland and beyond. These free and informal sessions offer hands-on demonstrations\, intimate artist talks\, and knowledge exchange in Portland’s media arts community! Bring your family\, coworkers\, Tinder dates\, or just your curious self\, for wild nights of 3D printing\, virtual world building\, hacked appliances\, sorcery\, and more.\n\nRecognizing the cultural resonance and accessibility of the popular form of karaoke\, the collective Weird Allan Kaprow experiments with repurposing pop melodies as vehicles for new narratives\, and facilitating moments of collective catharsis through the mocking of power. WAK’s most recent work\, "Karaoking Portland\," collaborated with local artists and community organizers to create 11 songs in 11 days. "Karaoking Portland" tells narratives counter to the dominant representation of Portland in popular media—a portrayal plush with microbrews\, bikes\, and boutiques. The collective's first project was "Karaoking the Museum\," which tells the material and social and political history of artwork on display at the Portland Art Museum.
